Why India’s New PM May Bring Disaster to India

Posted by yourpakistan on May 20, 2014

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and India’s next prime minister Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi and his party, the BJP, have won the Indian election by a unexpectedly massive margin – securing an outright majority. Congress and outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have conceded defeat and congratulated Modi.

Given than the elections have been declared “free and fair”, does this apparent magnitude of popular support for Modi not suggest that the fears of people like me, who recently signed a letter expressing concern at this prospect, are unjustified?

Modi appears to have been democratically elected. But, as his record in Gujarat indicates, he has exhibited a propensity to wield power in an undemocratic way and for undemocratic ends. Within his own party, he prevents emergence of independent leadership, making sure that potential rivals are politically finished. He encourages defections from other parties, rewarding defectors with party tickets, undermining the legitimacy of opposition.

He undermines key constitutional bodies: whether agencies investigating the 2002 massacres or extra-judicial killings in Gujarat, or the Election Commission. He centralises power, once holding 14 portfolios in the state cabinet. He talks of “uprooting” opponents and “erasing” opposing political parties, and his supporters promise exile and incarceration to critics.

The cult of personality around him likens him to Hindu gods: this militates against the principle of political equality at the basis of democracy. He does not open himself to any critical questioning, about the “Gujarat model” or about the massive finances spent by his campaign. Gujarat, which he holds up as a model of “good governance”, has the highest levels of violence against those seeking to use the “right to information” to find out about the activities of his government. Countering propaganda against Balochistan

Balochistan A Patriotic Pakistani Land

By Qudsia Farhat

Opinion Maker

Detractors of Pakistan, who want to exploit the Baloch card to destabilize Pakistan on one hand, and control the resources of the strife-torn province on the other, are trying to present the Naraz (angry) Baloch as being anti-state elements. There is a clear difference between the Naraz and anti state Baloch, which must be highlighted. Naraz Baloch are patriotic Pakistanis, who have reservations over priorities set by the federal and provincial Governments of Pakistan and Balochistan. On the other hand, anti state Baloch are elements opposed to the federation of Pakistan and they have their own agenda and vested interests. Unfortunately, they are playing in the hands of foreign elements.

The Government of Pakistan is making sincere efforts to address all the issues of Naraz Baloch, to appease their reservations and bring them back into the fold of government, allocate development funds and make all out endeavours to bring Balochistan at par with the other provinces. The anti state Baloch are few in number but comprise some feudal lords, who are exploiting the situation in their own favor by defaming all Baloch. They are using every possible means to slander the government and the armed forces of Pakistan, whom they perceive to be thorns in their sides, who deter them from achieving the odious agenda of their mentors and exploiters abroad. One subterfuge, which they have successfully employed, is the case of the “missing persons”. This multi pronged ruse is being used to draw sympathy at home and abroad to their cause; denigrate the armed forces, who are being held culpable of being responsible for the “missing persons” while simultaneously using it as a diversionary tactics to undermine the actual issues of Balochistan.

The alleged human rights violation by the Pakistani Armed Forces is hearsay since nothing was proved in Supreme Court of Pakistan during missing persons’ case. A few anti state elements are creating hype on the issue of missing persons to deprecate Pakistan and its Army at national and international level to fulfill their own vested interest. They should pause and ponder. What is more important? Missing persons’ case or provision of basic amenities and the socio economic uplift of Balochistan?

It is for the ordinary Baloch, which is the target of the propaganda to see the truth through the fog of misinformation. The Arab world, which was mesmerized by the “Arab Spring” and considered it a genuine movement is only now beginning to realize that it was duped by vested interests in the Occident to establish regimes of its choice. The Egyptian youth, which was so proud of its spurring the movement to dethrone Hosni Mobarak, now finds that its sojourn at the Tahrir Square was nothing but a mirage. Their sacrifices have been hijacked by forces being backed by the West, who only wanted to replace their aging puppets, which were losing their effectiveness, by more pliant ones. Youm e Shuhada: With Pride and Confidence

Posted by yourpakistan on May 2, 2014

Surely, in this fast age of satellite technology, mind-control techniques and a 4th Generation Warfare that declares propaganda and covert action its prime weapon, it would be most naive to ask for an army that keeps to the 1st Generation veneration only.

Aneela Shahzad – PKKH

pakistan day of martyrs

The huge monument, standing tall on the ground of Soldiers Park, Aziz Bhatti Road, Lahore, is engraved with the names of so many officers and soldiers that it is difficult to find the name of the loved one you have lost in this wild War on Terror of the passing decade.

Or have you lost your loved one at all? One does imagine for a moment as to what celebration or compensation has their brother giving away his life; is this the way he is to be celebrated that his name would barely be getting a few centimeters on the extensive slab of commemoration that is to be decorated with a floral wreath every once a year? No limelight to his action, no stardom in the media cascade!

Or had he considered this girder of names so towering, as would wallop his name to the reaches of another world that is incognito to the bare human eye! What is this human sacrifice, asked of a man, when he stands at the fence between two countries, two ideologies, and between life and death; who will be that one man who will take the bullet on his chest, protecting the nation, the family and the schema of a world view behind him? Who has this man talked to when fate had eventually asked him to stand affront to the enemy and turn back not, and lay not down his arm but only his body and ready his soul for a flight? It is God that he has conversed with and it is on His name that he lets his blood soak in the soil of a land that bears the mark of acceptance of his Lord. Read the rest of this entry »
