Notwithstanding the long list of failings of political and military regimes, there were good points to brag about as well. It is unfortunate that the last coalition government had nothing to show and feel proud of. The period from March 2008 to March 16, 2013 will be remembered as the darkest periods of Pakistan’s chequered history. The last government is busy highlighting its so-called achievements through page-size ads in newspapers. It is however quiet on its loot and plunder which continued till its last day in power. As if five years of loot was insufficient to rob this poor nation, the outgoing looters passed laws authorizing the PM, Speaker National Assembly, Chairman Senate, Sindh Chief Minister and Speaker lifetime security and perks and privileges.
On the last day of its tenure, the outgoing government issued 70 CNG licenses; Speaker Fehmida approved 100% increase in benefits and allowances of all members of National Assembly; income of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, ministers and special assistants increased by 40%; entire staff of Ministry of Information given foreign postings; billions of rupees dished out and banks remained open to ensure transaction. It gives a glimpse of the lust and greed of parasitic rulers. Read the rest of this entry »

Pakistan’s army chief is a man of few words. And true to his style, he made a few calculated remarks over the weekend that touch on two hotly debated issues in Pakistan and among Pakistan-watchers abroad. During a speech on the occasion of the graduation of the 127th Long Course of Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul, Gen. Kayani sent a direct warning to Indian generals.
For those who don’t remember, on January 11 and January 14, India’s air and army chiefs threatened military action against Pakistan over alleged violations of the ceasefire line in Kashmir. The crisis began a week before when Indian soldiers crossed the line and killed a Pakistani soldier. It was quite obvious to observers that Pakistan wouldn’t risk an escalation on its eastern front when it is embroiled in the American mess on the Afghan border.
This was not lost on independent-minded Indians. One Indian analyst went as far as accusing the Indian military of creating ‘hype’ inside India over Pakistan. Another Indian commentator accused the Indian army of mutilating bodies of Pakistani soldiers.
At the same time, and a few days before this Indian escalation, a news report from Pakistan appeared to indicate that terrorism emanating from the Afghan border into Pakistan has forced the Pakistani army to no longer consider India as the biggest threat. It appeared as if the Indian army generals concluded that Pakistan armed forces must be too weak now for them to be forced to make an admission they no longer considered India a threat. May 11, 2013 has been announced as polling day. Scrutiny of nominations papers has been completed and submission of appeals to election tribunals and their decisions ended on 16th. Final list will be issued on 18th. Election campaign will reach feverish pitch from 19 April. Notwithstanding the eagerness of the candidates and voters, security environment are not conducive for holding smooth, fair and free elections. Punjab is the only province where the security situation is not as bad because governance of Punjab government was far better than in other provinces.
Besides security concerns and fears that elections will be bloody, there is growing skepticism over the impartiality of caretakers and Election Commission (EC). Questions asked by the Returning Officers to ascertain whether the candidates fulfill the requirements of Articles 62 and 63 have generated a heated debate. The main objection is that focus should have been on financial impropriety rather than on testing candidate’s knowledge of Islam. Seculars are in ugly mood and are demanding scrapping of Gen Zia invented Articles in the constitution, not realizing that these were duly approved by the outgoing parliament while introducing 18th Amendment. Editor’s Note: This letter was written in 2002/03. No paper at the time accepted to publish it therefore it was printed in the pamphlet form and distributed to some 10000 people. None of the Rulers at the time even responded to this letter. Now it is being republished without any editing therefore the readers are free to judge for what was written about eight years back does it still hold its truth or not.

Guide us to the straight path,
The path of those upon whom You bestowed favours,
Not those who have invited Your wrath,
nor those who have gone astray. “Al-Fatih”
Dear Brothers and Sisters in faith and fraternity, Asslamolikum
As you all are aware that presently the entire Muslim world is under going a tremendous pressure seldom witnessed in history. Like most, I am sure you all must also be worried over the situation. We all jointly but you the leaders in particular have a great responsibility to discharge. The anti Islamic forces over the ages have been very active and aggressive in their aims and goals. They have left no avenue to attack Islam from all directions and at all levels, but we have either failed to read the situation or could not build up the necessary trust, confidence and strength to face it. The entire Muslim world stands divided in more than one way, the things are neither that simple nor very visible; there is lot more to be studied than what is visible to the naked eye. This problem does not pertain to any particular segment of our society or state; it’s universal to the entire Ummah. We as Muslims have to decide the course that we have to adopt; should we seek guidance from the Holy Quran or from the so-called defenders and propagators of the so-called modern and civilised society of the West.
What happened on 11th September is the next phase of the “New World Order” that was launched with the culmination of Gulf War. Thus it was not the act of any individual or a group of people. Even no Muslim country has the sophistication to carry out such an attack. Therefore in all earnest, we should have studied all that was made available and also tried to acquire more information independent of the Western governments to come to some logical and collective thinking in asserting the truth. Only then we would have been in a position to salvage the situation. I am not endorsing the foul acts of anyone what to say of Osama or Mullah Omar but before we had condemned or accepted them as terrorists we should have been more resolute in demanding the evidence against them and also studied the game plan and its pattern that has been evolving over the period of time. Today because of the timidness and lack of faith and trust in our Deen and its dictums, all the rulers are responsible for this blot on the face of the Ummah. The Zionist dominated West is all bent upon destroying the Muslims and the world of Islam, the last hurdle in their nefarious designs after Christianity and their own created communism both having been destroyed very effectively. The shape of Christianity is so badly mutilated that even the Christians have lost faith and belief in their religion. The Zionists who want the entire world to follow the path of sin have managed the Christians to follow Lucifer; they are prompted to sin by making them believe that these have all been paid for in the blood of Prophet Jesses, thus their love for Jesses. The Holy Bible after its mutilation is no longer the word of Allah (SWT). Read the rest of this entry »

“zan zar aur zameen (women, wealth and land) are the roots of all the conflicts on earth”, said the venerable old man who was giving a speech to an attentive audience. It has been years since I heard him say that, but his words are making a lot more sense now that I am writing a piece on wars.
Mahabharat is perhaps the earliest elaborate account of a war and it was a war fought to reclaim a lost kingdom, i.e., the land and wealth from the Troika that the old man referred to. Ramayana is again an account of war of the earliest times fought for liberating Sita from Ravana. Here too you see a woman, and the old man’s words seem vindicated. The Greek poet Homer has two great poems to his credit, one of which is the Iliad; the story of the Trojan War fought at the gates of the city of Troy. It was again a war into which the belligerents had plunged themselves ostensibly over the wife of the Spartan King. Pundits can point out other reasons for the war but they will still be a subset of the old man’s Troika. The other two roots, i.e., wealth and land, are too obvious to merit elaborate examples. In fact in modern times, they remain the main reasons underlying all contemporary war. Having read that, you may feel that the old man missed out on some other possible reasons, well! maybe, but his are the main reasons, without a shade of doubt .
Khalid Bin Waleed RadhiAllahu anhu has been one of the greatest generals of all time. He led the ragtag Muslim armies against the mighty Roman and Persian empires simultaneously in the 7th century. At the time, these empires were the mightiest in the world. The Muslim armies were no match for them in terms of numbers or tools of war. What they were bestowed with, though, was an unflinching conviction in them of being on the righteous side. They were soldiers who saw victory in both, falling and fighting on the battlefield as well as in the vanquishing of the adversary’s military. Theirs was a war that did not fit into the causes enunciated by the wise old man, mentioned in the start of the article. Read the rest of this entry »

“Take counsel with them in the conduct of affairs; and when you are resolved, put your trust in Allah. Allah loves those that trust (in Him) . Al-Imran 159.
It’s the political doctrine that determines or establishes other cultures in a society, be it social, economic, educational or any other. If we study the various political systems in the world today every society is moulded and guided by the political systems that it adopts or follows. Some political systems are very repressive and some may be very liberal and yet there are a few that follow the centre of the road. The parties that run or establish these systems first of all adopt the system within itself. If the party that does not practice what it professes then it’s going to be a chaos. Today Pakistan is in a complete mess not knowing where to head; the following of all the parties is based on personality cults, not on the teachings of Islam. The Muslims had the best system that was based on equality and social justice, this was the basic reason that the Muslims governed the world but unfortunately today the very Muslim rulers are not prepared to adopt it.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to consult his companions often on all the matters of the state and enforcement of sharia. He was ordained by Allah (SWT) to do so; why? Because, when the companions are consulted the implementation and acceptance becomes easier.
He had some very strong advisors in the persons of Amir Hamza, his uncle, Abu Bakr Siddique, Omar bin Khattab, Usman Ghani, Ali bin Abu Talib and many more names that can be mentioned. If a Prophet who had all the support of Allah, who could never go wrong, felt the need to consult his companions then how on earth can the pigmies of the leadership run their affairs without any solid consultation?
It is evidently clear that consultation is a must and no decision of an individual can be enforced upon others without their consent which has not been discussed with them. It’s only the cult leaders who take decisions in isolation and their followers have been blinded who have no choice but to accept. Read the rest of this entry »

Operation started in Tirah Valley. The Army surrounded the area from all sides and all supply lines of militants are nullified. Heavy mortars and artillery are doing their job and dozens of militants are being killed every 24 hours. 18000 families left the area, clearing the battlefield for the Pakistan Army. The Pakistan Air Force is also helping the army to attack those militants that are not in range of the artillery barrage. Army sources said that they have intensified the operations and rapid conclusions and clearances are in transaction, and that the operation is hoped to have ended before the general elections.
The areas of Tirah contain steep mountains and caves in them. Those caves are safe havens and arms depots of TTP. It is located between Khyber and Kurram Agencies and it is strategically important for militants as well as the Pakistani Armed Forces to gain that area. Reports are coming that SSG is also involved in the operation, and we all know that every operation in the past that involved SSG was of much importance. The steep mountains of the area are the biggest problem for the troops; but our guys, too, are tough enough to conquer any battlefield. The Pakistan Army’s main strategy will be the use of their capability of rapidness here. Our Companies will conquer militants’ hideouts one after the other without allowing them proper time to regroup. Read the rest of this entry »
