Pakistan: Are They Our Leader Or Criminals?

Criminals of Pakistan

By Mahboob A. Khawaja, PhD. (Opinion Maker)

Leaders with No accountability and No Shame

Pakistan is in ruins. The nation and its imagery, law and justice, commerce, thinking hubs, political governance all appear dysfunctional and self-contradictory. Eroding freedom of thoughts and action speaks of missing accountability of political elite. The nation is fast becoming victim of a US planned blue-print being used in Iraq. Vengeful sectarian killings and dismantling of economic, political and moral infrastructures to incapacitate the nation by its own sadistic rulers. All fighting against all to end the very existence by collective madness. The paid Pakistani political and security agents are instrumental in carrying out heinous crimes. Increasingly and without any logical redress, common citizens are the targeted aim of the political cruelty. No wonder, once conditions favorable to cruelty are established, it spreads like frightening wildfire. The governance demonstrates dead-ended political conscience of the interest of the people. After decade-old American entrapment in the bogus war on terrorism, the country has lost the energies and capacity to deal with any major problems of security and national unity. The foreign agenda is focused on breaking the moral and spiritual lifelines of the Pakistani nation by its own agents of influence. There are no brave and proactive politicians to stop the continuing political stagnation. The nation faces colossal disaster day in and day out but nobody is held accountable for the crimes. The Generals are convenient spectators and Nawaz Sharif is happy, the herd is politically manageable to complete his inherently fraudulent term of office as prime minister.

Pakistani Leaders Are MenaceDaily blood baths of civilians go unabated adding to statistical record for lack of adequate security. The latest cold blooded murder of 55 innocent people at Wagha border and 100 or so injured adds nothing new to grieving citizens belief that Pakistan is governed by most inept, incompetent and corrupt people ever witnessed by an informed nation. No politicians assume responsibility for the protection and safeguard of life and property of ordinary Pakistanis. There is obvious disconnect between the people and the political rulers constantly hated and feared by the masses. The conflicting time zones are widening in which ordinary people suffer versus the ruling elite breathe as daily civilian casualties continued to rise because of the Taliban attacks and targeted massacres of the ordinary citizens. Who is a failure and who should be held accountability? Is the Pakistani security apparatus so incompetent and ill equipped that it cannot ensure public safety? Given the lack of accountability and lack of shame, there is nothing to prevent these political criminals from repeating their crimes. So the killings of the innocent civilians go unabated. Strange as is, opposition activists raising voices against the Sharif regime are conveniently arrested and jailed but not the Sharif brethren who kill the citizens at random and implement planned massacres. Those facilitating crimes against the people occupy positions of political leadership and even law and justice cannot question them – abetted by the political class, committed the greatest heist in history.

Is ‘Pakistan’ the Real Enemy?

13 Years of War in Afghanistan – US Finding its ‘Heart and Mind’ Behind Defeat.

US defeated by Afghan Taliban in Afghanistan

By Tabish Qayyum – PKKH

“Let’s Roll” were Bush’s words back in 2001, when US Air Force jets were scrambled in order to push back a nation into stone age which was already years behind civilization. CNN carried out marathon transmission airing info graphics of latest US missiles and bombs that were being dispatched to win ‘hearts and minds’ of Afghans by pulverizing the Taliban for their refusal to divorce Al Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden for their alleged crime of perpetrating the 9/11 tragedy on US homeland, which stunned analysts, theorists and students of peace and conflicts on the unfolding era of warfare where non state actors were directly challenging worlds only power in the most brazen manner human mind can think of.

G W Bush in his famous post 9/11 attack address categorically mentioned the consequences of not being with US in its coalition against Al Qaeda and Taliban. The world was divided. US was confident, with the whole world on its side, a coalition of the world’s best weapons, militaries, strategists and financiers with complete support of UNSC legitimizing the assault on a faceless enemy that according to the world lived in the rugged mountains of Afghanistan. Afghanistan Base of Terrorism

Posted by yourpakistan on January 15, 2014

Afghanistan & Terrorism

By Brig Asif Haroon Raja / Opinion Maker

When war against the Soviet forces in Afghanistan was won by the Mujaheddin duly supported by Pakistan in 1989, the US claimed that the war couldn’t have been won without surface to air stinger missiles. In its view, stingers made the difference and forced the Soviets to beat a hasty retreat. In the ongoing war on terror in which the US for all practical purposes has lost the war and its forces are in the process of pulling out from Afghanistan and will depart by December 2014, the US is trying to project drone as the winning weapon against terrorism. It must not be forgotten that it is not the gun which matters but the man behind the gun. ISAF has the most sophisticated and lethal weaponry of all kinds together with latest technology but still couldn’t defeat the ill-clad and ill-equipped and under-strength Taliban. Drone has been selected as a choice weapon since it is unmanned and free of combat risks to US soldiers. Mounting casualties, suicides and loss of heart by NATO soldiers were the reasons to bank upon drones.

Had Pakistan not stood up against Soviet intervention in Afghanistan, nothing could have prevented Afghanistan turning into a satellite State of USSR and its Islamic identity, its tribal customs and traditions and historical heritage, all would have been destroyed. It cannot be denied that Afghanistan snuggled out of the stranglehold of USSR because of Pakistan’s momentous role. In its bid to save Afghanistan, Pakistan itself got entangled in innumerable problems. Wave of conspiracies, intrigues and terrorism ruined Pakistan’s peace.

War against the Soviets produced Jihadis in Pakistan and gave rise to Kalashnikov and drug cultures. Most of the Jihadis who took part in Afghan Jihad were from FATA and some parts of settled areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) like Malakand. Religious seminaries imparting religious training were converted into military training centres duly funded by CIA and Saudi Arabia. Since Jihadis came from other Muslim countries as well, camaraderie developed among them. A small force of about 500-700 from Saudi Arabia under Osama bin Laden supported by CIA also took active part in Jihad. This force was later named as al-Qaeda in mid-1990s. Mullah Fazlullah and India

Fazlullah helps India in feeding Terrorism in Pakistan

Terrorism in Swat Valley

By Brig Asif Haroon Raja – Opinion Maker

Maulana Fazlullah is son-in-law of Maulana Sufi Muhammad who had founded Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM), which was banned by Pakistan government. He belongs to Babukarkhel clan of Yusafzai tribe of Swat district. On January 12, 2002, he became the leader of TNSM since Sufi had been put behind bars. In 2006, he started broadcasting his fiery speeches twice a day in Swat Valley, preaching virtue and exhorting the people to abstain from vices. While condemning western systems, he stated that imposition of Islamic laws was the sole cure for all the evils in the society. As his audience grew in size, he started taking practical action against so-called evil doers by torching electronic and video shops arguing that dance and music were major sins. His armed men threatened barbers not to shave beards and were forced to close their shops. Mujras and singing were disallowed. He opposed anti-polio drive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saying that it was western conspiracy to make Muslims impotent. He barred women from taking part in education and imposed ban on female education in Swat district. Some 400 schools enrolling 4000 girls were shut down and 170 schools were blown up or burnt. He had also ordered death of Malala Yusafzai simply because she spoke in favor of education of girls. She was shot at from a point blank range on October 9, 2012 but she miraculously survived.

Once Fazlullah gained popularity and earned the nickname of ‘Mullah Radio’, he urged the people to donate money and help him in introducing Islamic system so that they could get speedy and cheap justice. Gullible women donated their jewelry. He also started collecting money through extortion and kidnapping for ransom to strengthen his financial position. From the ill-gotten wealth he collected, he constructed a Madrassa in Mingora worth Rs 25 crores, which became his base of operation and he used it for the purpose of training terrorists. He also opened training centres for preparing teenage boys as suicide bombers. Siege of Lal Masjid in Islamabad in July 2007 and its tragic ending propelled Fazlullah to forge an alliance with Baitullah Mehsud to consolidate his hold over Swat. Read the rest of this entry »

Shuhada (Martyrs) Resolution by 3000 Ulemas From Across Pakistan

Posted by yourpakistan on November 15, 2013

Pakistani Martyrs Resolution

A Shuhada (Martyrs) Convention was held today, under the auspices of Jamat-ud-Dawa, to dispel the deliberate confusions being created in the society following the bombing of Hakimullah Mehsud in a drone strike. Attended by 3000 religious scholars, it was resolved that deliberate confusion is being created by certain segments of the society about ‘martyrdom’ status of the slain warriors.

The religious scholars stressed that the terrorists are increasingly resorting to the menace of Takfeerism (declaring Muslims as Infidels), to justify their atrocities and nefarious aims. It was further underscored that the US is using drone strikes to target tribal Muslims, who as a reaction are resorting to terrorism activities and sabotage.

Appealing to the Government of Pakistan and all the religious-political parties, the scholars pointed out that they should direct their activities towards the real enemy, and shouldn’t confuse the masses in unnecessary debates of attainment of ‘martyrdom’.

Lauding the sacrifices of Pakistani armed forces, the highly learned participants iterated that the Pakistani nation would stand alongside its armed forces, and will give a befitting reply to anyone who dare gaze at Pakistan with mal-intent.

At the end of the conference, a resolution was passed stating that the Government of Pakistan should part way with the United States on the so called ‘War on Terror’, stop the US from carrying on drone strikes on Pakistan’s soil, and carry on negotiations with TTP militants so that peace can be maintained.

Behind Epicenter of Terrorism in Pakistan

Posted by yourpakistan on October 14, 2013

What is the interest of India in these two consulates (at Kandhar and Jalalabad), nothing other than carrying out, aiding, abetting terrorism in Pakistan — stabbing Pakistan in the back

Pakistan is the only country subjected for several years to continuous drone attacks

By Sadaf Zamir- Opinion Maker

The premeditated progression of propaganda against Pakistan in the form of obdurate comment alleging that Pakistan is presently an epicenter of terrorism was aptly put forth, at the forum where it could receive utmost approbation. It may seem quite true on the face of it, but what needs to be explored and brought forward are the dramatis personae continually promulgating this and to analyze behind the scenes ground work shaped during the last decade.

Terrorism in Pakistan with a support of US cia operatives

Pakistan is the only country subjected for several years to continuous drone attacks which are also termed by some reviewers as ‘State sponsored assassinations by US’. While the figures of casualties vary on drone attacks, from US official sites versus Pakistan government and independent bodies, there is consensus on some independent analysis. As of Dec 10, 2012, there were total 351 drone attacks in Pakistan, killing 2590 people including 176 children and injuring 3228 people. Since then there have been more than twenty strikes in 2013 alone killing more civilians and children. Not a single victim has was ever accused of any specific crime or allowed to answer those charges before an impartial judge — constitutional rights guaranteed to all persons.

According to a CIVIC (Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict) report ” Equally heartbreaking is the psychological toll. One need not have his or her home destroyed, or a loved one killed, by a drone strike to be traumatized. The mere sound of an approaching drone, in fact, can be just as devastating as its detonation. I have heard Pakistanis speak about children in the tribal areas who become hysterical when they hear the characteristic buzz of a drone. “ the report also mentioned that drones frequently “hum overhead” 24 hours a day, and that six of them sometimes linger above the same area — “often flying close to the ground and putting people in constant fear of being hit.” Imagine the effect this has on psyches, and particularly on young ones already scarred by war and displacement. In this regard, it is pertinent to mention here that Malala Yousafzai represents not only young victims of suicide attacks but also the damage done directly or indirectly due to drones.

Research also tells us that the innocent people who are traumatized in similar ways living under continuous threat are the softest targets for psychological enticement. Those who want to avenge their loved ones killed by drones including babies, women and aged family members may therefore be particularly prone. It has time and again been emphasized by the analysts as well as the political leaders in Pakistan that drone attacks are a major cause as well as a claim of justification for terrorist assaults. If the impacts of terrorism and suicide attacks in Pakistan are analyzed in terms of benefactors, one can speedily come to the conclusion that most of the so-called Taliban merely act as marionette and are serving foreign connivers who engineer, coax and trigger suicide attacks.

In addition, the earlier observations of many analysts are now being established in the form of hard core facts based on recent evidences that terrorism is one major form of covert war orchestrated by external enemies of Pakistan. Not only behind some terrorist groups and parties in Karachi, but also behind many factions of so-called Talibans, teeming support from across Pakistan’s borders in the form of tactical planning, design, finances, equipment and weapons has always existed, which has significantly amplified during the last decade. Most of the spying equipment, weapons and various forms of sophisticated and crude ammo used in terrorism are apparently being supplied through Afghanistan borders. It is worthwhile to note here that there is a multitude of Indian Consulates as well as intelligence offices near Pakistan borders.

One may wonder on the aims and objectives of establishing three consulates and some three dozen facilitation cum intelligence centers just on Afghan-Pakistan border. The direct borders with Pakistan do not have as many offices or consulates. Obviously, there is no Indian civilians there who need to be facilitated through these offices. As once also declared by Ex-President Parvaiz Musharraf, “What is the interest of India in these two consulates (at Kandhar and Jalalabad), nothing other than carrying out, aiding, abetting terrorism in Pakistan — stabbing Pakistan in the back”. It can very easily be inferred that foreign nationals with unclear motives and perhaps the merchandise coming, in the name of trade to Pakistan through Afghanistan, are extraneously facilitated than through direct borders. This may aid in further understanding what the facilitated foreign nationals may be doing for several years just in the border areas of Pakistan including Waziristan, Dir and Chamman.

On top of everything is the fact that whenever the leadership in Pakistan gets close to dealing peacefully and negotiating with so-called Talibans, there is colossal hue and cry globally, many are prompted at local forums in saying that the factions of taliban are not identifiable, which ones are required to join the negotiation table or perhaps they are not worth it. On the other hand, the drone attacks and the suicide attacks come quickly into play such that the negotiating parties become astringent again. Recently, the suicide attack on one major group by another so-called taliban faction, may suffice to give food for thought to people who are still in doubt. The need is to clearly flesh out the foreign involvement behind the most controversial and damaging episodes of the recent past.

Climate warfare is also alleged to have played a vital role in achieving maligned designs in Pakistan, starting from 2005 earthquake in Mansehra and Kashmir to most of the floods and the recent two earthquakes at the 7.8 intensity in Quetta and Sindh. Mansehra and Kashmir still have many foreigners who came as relief workers and engineers. Needless to emphasize global interest in the Reqo-Diq mines and usage of border belt of Pakistan for its significance as trade corridor from Waziristan to Chamman to Gwadar. Interestingly, the epicenters have been where our enemies could have most wished.

War on Terror or Terror of War?

Posted by yourpakistan on August 6, 2013

Terror War Lead by USA

By Rehan Rasheed – Opinion Maker

The year 2014 is cut-off date for withdrawal of the US-led forces. We have seen that the US wants to exploit its position to use the Asian trade routes to her own advantage to fulfill the global designs. The importance of this region, especially the Indian Ocean, was narrated well by Admiral Robert Long in 1981 when he talked of its significance for the US and the Western world at large and put accent on “the will and resolve of US to protect vital interests there”.

Viewed in this perspective, it is not the “End Game” in Afghanistan. It is rather the start of a “New Game” and the entire region has much on stake. Thus, rather than a War on Terror, it should be termed as a Terror of War. Terror of war and a response thereof are interconnected in all dimensions. Preparation for war leads to the better strategy that ultimately results in the victory. Formulation of strategy requires priorities. The best strategy, as Sun Tzu says, is to attack the enemy’s strategy. This is but a simple way to describe the warfare.

Pax Americana – a global hegemony exercised by Americans, the term used to indicate the military and economic position of the US in relation to other nations requires enough resources to corroborate its global leadership syndrome. The world is already pluralized. The awakening of China, integration of Europe and revival of Russia make things difficult to support her supremacy therefore formalization of global strategy for supremacy in view of the emerging realities is always a top priority for the US. Opinion: Pakistan, Middle East and Beyond

Posted by yourpakistan on May 31, 2013

Pakistan & Middle East

by Tabish Hijazy

The concept of the Asian Century is taking its roots in the global dynamics. Not only in economic terms – as Asia has been playing a key role in the global economy since the last two decade – but more so in geopolitical and geo strategic terms. Asia is the center stage of global politics, making it the most underlying and strategically potent military zone in the world. The uncertainty of regional politics, owing to the heavy penetration of Western hegemony, makes the region highly volatile and susceptible to high intensity conflicts. Post 9/11, the Middle East and the South Asian region is witnessing a change in the traditional strategic blocks in contemporary times. New alliances with proposed regional blocks are emerging, while the existing ones are going through a complete reshape. American war adventurism is on the cusp of instigating new wars in the region whilst shutting other theaters, in a desperate attempt to salvage some pride.

The deep anarchy and chaos in Asia is unprecedented in history, instigated by the Western powers to gain military significance and, most importantly, to ensure their permanent hegemony around the world. However, the tide of history may turn against the U.S., with some major geo strategic changes around the corner that may eventually doom the sun of the U.S. completely and give way  to a new horizon for the Eastern civilization. Pakistan: Why terrorism couldn’t be curbed?

Posted by yourpakistan on May 6, 2013

foreign terrosim in pakistan

By Brig Asif Haroon Raja

Terrorism is the foremost problem of the world but ironically it is yet to be defined. What is the yardstick for defining a terrorist since ‘one person’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter’ and vice versa? Difference between terrorism and freedom struggle has also not been defined. No explanation has been rendered as to how come religious extremism and terrorism have been exclusively confined to Muslim world and non-Muslim world exempted. On what grounds Hindu and Jewish religious extremism and terrorism been ignored? Aren’t Palestinians and Kashmiris the biggest victims of state terrorism of India and Israel respectively since 1947/48?

How come USA which many see as the biggest terrorist state been excused? How come terrorism suddenly became such a dreaded monster when America was struck and not before? Why the liberal writers never tire writing about the horrors of 9/11 and scourge of terrorism after 9/11 and not before? Was the world safe from the bane of extremism and violence before 9/11? Muslims ask whether 9/11 was more gruesome than nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Why the axe has fallen only on Muslims? These pointed questions agitate the minds of the Muslims since the one who had vowed to eliminate terrorism from the face of the world has a tainted past and believes in dual standards.
