Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Panakot, Dir, and praised the high morale of the soldiers.

Security posts in Dir were heavily targeted by the terrorists in this summer by the Afghan Soldiers and militant groups in Afghanistan. These groups are led by the Pakistani cleric Fazlullah, who fled into Afghanistan when the army recaptured Swat valley after two-years of Taliban insurgency in 2009.

COAS visited the posts in Dir, to boost the morale of the soldiers. He said “terrorist cannot succeed in their coward ambitions in the presence of yhe brave Pakistani soldiers”.

According to the press release of ISPR, COAS said that militants were driven away from Swat with public support. Pakistan Army will not leave the border areas with Afghanistan till all terrorists are defeated and smooth transition of responsibility to civil administration has taken place.

COAS was also briefed by ISPR about the present situation in Dir. He was informed about the measures being adopted by Pakistan army after last months attacks made on the Pak Army posts by the militants, operating from across the border. CAOS met the local elders of Dir and thanked them for their support.

Afghanistan, US and its NATO allies always blame Pakistan for harboring Afghan Taliban in its tribal areas and pressurize Pakistan for taking action against them but US/NATO and Afghan security forces have never tried to stop Fazlullah and his militant groups from attacking Pakistan. They have been freely attacking Pakistani border posts and civilian villages in Dir, Chitral and tribal areas of Pakistan from their secure bases, particularly in the Afghan provinces of Kunar and Nuristan.
